Make Me Over: When Change Starts Within

Genesis 32, Tells us the story of Jacob standing at a turning point in his life. He had spent years striving, planning, and trying to secure things his own way. But when he reached that place called Jabbok, everything shifted. He found himself alone, confronted not just with his past, but with who he had become because of it.

And that’s where the real change began.

Jacob wrestled all night—not just for a blessing, but for transformation. When God asked him, “What is your name?” it wasn’t about information. It was about honesty. Jacob had to face himself before he could be changed.

That same truth applies to us today.

We often pray for God to fix situations, open doors, or change people. But sometimes God is saying, “Before I change what’s around you, I need to change what’s within you.”

That’s the heart behind the cry: “Make me over.”

It’s not an easy prayer. It’s not a comfortable prayer. But it’s a necessary one. Because real transformation doesn’t come from avoiding the struggle—it comes from staying in God’s presence long enough to be changed by it.

Jacob walked away from that encounter different. He had a new name, a new identity, and yes—even a limp. But that limp was a reminder that he had been with God and would never be the same.

That’s our prayer today:

“Lord, don’t just bless me—change me. Don’t just fix my situation—make me over.”

Because when God changes you… everything else begins to follow!
