Life is full of challenges. I’m sure that, like me, you’ve experienced your share of setbacks, disappointments, and difficult circumstances. Whether it’s financial strain, marital struggles, health issues, job loss, or the pain of losing a loved one, we all face trials. No one is exempt from life’s hardships, and those trials often come with temptations that can lead to poor choices and difficult consequences.
But here's the good news: God is sovereign!
In 1 Corinthians 10:13, we are reminded:
"No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it."
This verse is powerful because it reminds us that God is faithful, even when we’re in the midst of difficult times. He knows we will face challenges, but He promises to help us endure. Sometimes, it can feel like the weight is too much to bear, but God’s assurance is clear: He will provide a way out and help us endure, even if that deliverance doesn’t come immediately.
This brings us to a key point: Endurance through difficulty is part of the journey. God doesn’t always take us out of trouble instantly, but He promises that, in the end, it will come to an expected conclusion. His plan will unfold, and deliverance will come — if we hold on in faith.
Psalm 31:19 tells us, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.” Afflictions are a reality for everyone, especially those who follow Christ, but God’s promise remains — He will deliver us from them all.
We also know that our enemy, Satan, is constantly at work, seeking to destroy our lives and our peace. John 10:10 reminds us of this: "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy." Yet, Jesus came to give us life, "and life to the full." He doesn’t want us to merely survive — He wants us to thrive, despite the struggles we face.
Faith: The Anchor in Life’s Storms
With the understanding that God is sovereign and faithful, we are called to stand strong in our faith. But what exactly is faith? Faith isn’t about denying our circumstances, pretending everything is fine, or ignoring the role we play in the outcomes of our lives. Faith is a confident assurance that, no matter how things may seem, we can trust God’s promises.
Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as “confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” True faith leads to hope, even when others might call that hope unfounded. Romans 5:5 encourages us: “And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”
As children of God (Romans 8:16), we can trust that He will be faithful to us in the midst of trials. Even when He has to correct us, His love remains constant. As our loving Father, He will always be just, merciful, and faithful, guiding us through life’s storms.
Isaiah 41:10 offers another beautiful promise: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
From Frustration to Conviction: Standing Firm in Faith
The Bible speaks of David as a man after God’s own heart. Despite making some painful mistakes, David’s love for God remained steadfast. Yet, even David experienced deep frustration during times of trial. In Psalm 13, David cries out to God in his distress:
“How long, LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?”
David’s words express raw emotion — frustration, confusion, and pain. Yet, by the end of the psalm, David’s faith shifts. Despite his doubts, he declares:
“But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the LORD’s praise, for he has been good to me.”
David didn’t deny his pain, but he chose to place his trust in God’s love and faithfulness. His conviction in God's promises led him to praise, even in the midst of hardship.
We, too, can stand firm in our convictions. Faith doesn’t mean we won’t feel sadness, exhaustion, or doubt — it means that, like David, we choose to trust God’s unfailing love, even when deliverance seems delayed.
Philippians 4:6-7 gives us another beautiful reminder of God’s peace: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
When we take our worries and concerns to God, He promises to give us a peace that will surpass our understanding — a peace that will guard our hearts and minds. Even in the most trying of times, God’s peace can settle our souls and give us strength.
Standing Strong in Conviction
There are some circumstances in life that we can’t change on our own, but we can take comfort in Psalm 91. This powerful passage reminds us that God is our refuge and protector. No matter what happens around us, He promises to cover us and keep us safe.
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”
(Psalm 91:1-4)
Even in the face of overwhelming odds, God promises His protection. A thousand may fall on one side, and ten thousand on the other, but it will not come near us. He sends His angels to guard us, keeping us safe until His perfect timing for deliverance.
In Closing: Encouragement for the Journey
In the midst of life’s challenges, I pray you find encouragement in knowing that God has not abandoned you. You are not alone. No matter what you're facing, God is with you, providing strength, refuge, and ultimately, deliverance. Hold on to His promises — He’s got you covered! Keep your faith strong, because victory is coming. God is faithful, and He will never leave you nor forsake you.
