Seeking God Before Acting: Trusting His Wisdom Over Our Emotions

In life, we often face situations where we must make decisions—some small, some life-changing. Too often, we allow our emotions to lead us, making choices based on how we feel in the moment rather than seeking God’s guidance. However, the Word reminds us in Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Our emotions can be deceptive. They fluctuate with circumstances, but God’s wisdom is unchanging. When we rely solely on feelings, we risk making impulsive decisions that may lead to regret. But when we pause, seek God in prayer, and listen for His direction, He leads us on the right path. King David often sought the Lord before battle, and Jesus Himself withdrew to pray before major moments in His ministry. If they needed divine guidance, how much more do we?
Before making a decision—big or small—let us ask ourselves: Have I truly sought God about this? Am I acting out of emotion, or am I following His will? When we surrender our choices to Him, He provides clarity, wisdom, and peace. Let’s commit to seeking God first in all things, trusting that His direction is always best.
