Get Up Again: Faith Over Finality

A Reflection on Mark 5:21 & 35–42

By Pastor Michelle Thomas

Have you ever faced a moment when it felt like the promise died before the miracle could arrive? That’s where Jairus found himself. A synagogue leader—deeply rooted in religious tradition—risked his reputation and position to fall at the feet of Jesus. His daughter was dying, and only one name came to mind: Jesus.

But while Jesus was on the way to his house, delay showed up in the form of another miracle. And then came the news no parent ever wants to hear: “Your daughter is dead. Why bother the teacher anymore?”

But Jesus stopped the fear with just five words: “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

This wasn’t just about healing anymore—this was about resurrection. Jairus had faith for a cure, but now he had to believe for something greater. He had to trust that even in death, Jesus still had power.

Sometimes God will let things "die" so we’ll stop relying on our own understanding—and fully surrender to His power.

Like Jairus, many of us are called to step away from religious routine and enter a real relationship with the Resurrection Himself.

And here’s the good news: When Jesus shows up, what looks dead must get up. He walked into Jairus’ house, took the little girl by the hand, and said “Talitha Koum”—“Little girl, I say to you, get up!”

That’s the call for us today too.

No matter how long you’ve been waiting…No matter what died in the delay…Jesus still speaks life. And when He does, destiny stands up.

Now is your moment to get up again!
